PILATES
Pilates is a type of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. He believed that mental and physical health are interdependent, and therefore designed a set of exercises based mainly on strengthening the core as well as the whole body using mind power.
Concentration and specific breathing techniques are key components of Pilates, and along with the workout allow the gain of strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and relaxation.
Pilates was first used to treat war veterans and then quickly gained popularity amongst Hollywood actors. Dancers worldwide have taken a great interest in Pilates due to its unique benefits regarding posture, strength, and balance. Aside from improving the physique, the Pilates method has proved highly useful in preventing both physical and psychological conditions.
