Prenatal vocal therapy
"Chant Prenatale"

What is prenatal vocal therapy?
Prenatal vocal therapy is a
complementary and vibrational medicine therapy. It is a preparation for
receiving life, it has four objectives:
• Wellbeing during the pregnancy period.
• Create a strong energetic bond with the baby.
• Prepare for labor.
• Facilitate labor and delivery.
Pregnancy is a wonderful period, but can sometimes be difficult and discerning.
For that reason, the main objective of prenatal vocal therapy is to promote the
wellbeing of pregnant women during the precious moments of pregnancy, and to
also create a strong energetic bond between mother and child. It allows the
pregnant women to live her pregnancy in harmony and bond with her baby; most of
all, it teaches her to relax and concentrate on herself, and to control and
reduce labor and delivery pain.
Did you know? A woman’s voice during labor
becomes three times lower! This physical change allows the increase of
endorphins!

This is a natural resource given
to women to help them endure pain and take control of their bodies. Prenatal
vocal therapy uses this natural ability and develops it by using specific
vocalize for every stage of the pregnancy. These same vocalizes will be used
during labor and delivery to reduce and control pain; they also accompany the
baby during his journey to the outer world. Thanks to many vocal techniques, the
women will start to become aware of some muscles (such as the perinea muscles…)
and most importantly of her respiratory system which she will be able to feel
and control. These vocal techniques are supported by different postures during
the labor. A significant work will also be done on the diaphragm and the bones
to create a sound box inside the body so that the woman will be aware of the
different sounds her body can produce, A listening time for herself and her
baby, and often others, is necessary for the reception of sounds and their
circulation around the mother and baby’s body.
So, prenatal vocal therapy is a
TOOL given to pregnant women that they can use during labor and delivery.
Prenatal vocal Therapy is based on
the following:
• Vocal techniques
• The art of breathing
• Physical positions
How does it work?
1- Works on the body:
A women’s body goes trough a number of changes during her pregnancy. These
changes often have side effects such as back pain, swelling feet, difficulty to
breath, tiredness…Therefore a work on the body is essential.
With the help of many physical exercises this technique will help reduce the
side effects of the changes all women go through.
• During pregnancy a lot of postures and positions must be learned to take
pressure off the spine and the feet.
• Many essential massages are also learnt to relieve pain but also to increase
the awareness of one’s body.
• But most important are the labor positions! Those help the woman to find her
comfort zone so she could open her pelvis and accompany the contractions with
certain necessary movements.
• Birth balloons are used to massage the perinea between contractions and to
swing the pelvis.
• Birth positions are also very important! Prenatal vocal therapy help women
find their birth position (squatting, sleeping…). It teaches them to take
control of their bodies.
2- Works on the voice and the phonetics:
Phonetics and sounds are also of high importance! The lower part of a women’s
face (mouth tongue…) is directly connected to her pelvis and perineal area. A
significant work is therefore done on the mouth and tongue to help loosen the
pelvis and prepare the perineal area for delivery.
During the sessions many vocalizes and vocal exercises are learned to be used
during labor and delivery, these exercises will help control and reduce pain but
also help the woman be aware of her pelvis and her perinea during the final
stages of delivery.
The vocal techniques aid physical awareness, which leads to control certain
muscles such as the perinea, the diaphragm and the abdominal belt. Other
vocalizes will help women control their breathing and the sounds they will do
during the labor. The vibrations produced during the vocal exercises will bring
wellbeing to the child and help remove the mother’s stress and many symptoms
caused by stress.
3- Works on the breathing:
Prenatal vocal therapy uses the art of breathing as a highly effective birth
technique, to breathe is an art.
• During labor and delivery how a women breathes is essential, it can determine
whether or not she has an episiotomy.
• Prenatal vocal therapy helps women take control of their breathing using many
techniques and exercises to be applied while giving birth.

stage of pregnancy. It is also effective for women wanting to get pregnant
because it prepares their bodies to receive life.
